SCORE: Standing Committee on Research Exchange

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who is eligible to travel under a SCORE contract.
A: All medical students in a university that has a SCORE local committee are eligible. Currently in Lebanon only the medical students at the American University of Beirut are eligible.

Q: How can I join SCORE?
A: Contact us. You will be added to the SCORE mailing list and thus will receive notification of all of our meetings and activities. All that is left for you to do is attend.

Q: What do you mean "a contract"?
A: A contract is an agreement between two counties about exchanging students. There are two types of contracts.

Bilateral: A student goes from country A to country B while another student comes from country B to country A. In this case the student pays only the contract fee (150$ for Lebanon).

Unilateral: A student goes from country A to country B but there is no student to come from country B. In this case the student has to cover his/her lodging and board (Depends on country, 250-350$).

Q: What countries can I go to?

A:  Bilateral contracts are signed about 1 year in advance so they're fixed. However we can sign unilateral contracts throughout the year with most of the countries participating in SCORE. This doesn't mean however that all contracts are available since all countries have a limit as to how many students they can accept.

Q: Let's talk money... How much will this cost me?
A: The fee for a bilateral contract is set by the local committee and is in the 100-200$ range. This covers board and lodging for the duration of the exchange but not the transportation costs. Under a unilateral contract you have to pay for your board and lodging to the receiving committee. This is usually in the 250-350$ range.

Q: I'm interested in going to Germany but my cat's German is better than mine.
A: The official language of IFMSA and SCORE is English. Thus the committee members who will meet you there will speak English and so will your research tutor. (Unless specified otherwise in project description)
